Tripti (Padmini Kapila) is from a wealthy family, and falls in love with Ravi (Shashi Kapoor), a struggling doctor. After they get married, her parents help Ravi set up in a private hospital following which most of his time is consumed in the hospital and among patients. Tripti expects Ravi to give her more time after she gets pregnant. Failing to do so, all he invites is her wrath. On the day of her parent's anniversary, Tripti asks Ravi to accompany her. To avoid her anger, he leaves a patient and goes along. However, the patient dies and Ravi blames himself, escaping from all in shame. Meanwhile Tripti gives birth to a boy, Vijay (Rajan Sippy), who later goes on to become an Assistant Superintendent of Police. Father and son cross paths when Vijay arrests his father for assisting a bandit, Bajrang (Suresh Oberoi). What remains to be seen is whether Vijay would abide by his duties or give in to the sentiments.
