Avenging Angelo
Years ago, a mob boss named Lucio Malatesta (George Touliatos) pinned the murder of rival Sammy Carboni (Gino Marrocco) on another rival named Angelo Allieghieri (Anthony Quinn). Sammy and Lucio wanted to kill each other, but Lucio hired one of Angelo's traders to shoot Sammy and then shot the assassin, to remove any proof of Lucio's involvement. Bruno is Lucio's son. On his death bed, Sammy gives instructions to kill any child ever fathered by Angelo. This led to Sammy's son Gianni (Raoul Bova) vowing revenge. Frankie Delano (Sylvester Stallone) has spent his life safeguarding Angelo as well as Angelo's daughter, Jennifer Barrett (Madeleine Stowe). Frankie is a professional watcher, and he stays in the shadows and watches over the people that he is meant to protect. Jennifer has no idea that Angelo is her father, and that Frankie is a full-time bodyguard who protects her. Angelo has recorded a DVD and left it with Frankie, so that Frankie can reveal the truth to Jennifer in case such as need arises. Frankie is a good person by heart. Jennifer's unsavory husband Kip Barrett (Harry Van Gorkum) has had their young son Rawley (Ezra Perlman) placed in a boarding school against Jennifer's wishes. Kip argues that military school will make a man out of Rawley, but Jennifer protests that he is only 7 years old. Jennifer also gave up a career as Kip wanted her to be a at home mother. Frankie offers to intervene and fix the situation for Jennifer, but Angelo tells Frankie to always keep the distance. Angelo is frustrated that whatever he has funneled to Kip, he managed to lose or squander. Jennifer was raised by her adoptive parents Whitney Towers (John Gilbert) and Peggy Towers (Dawn Greenhalgh) and is not aware that Angelo is her father. Frankie and Angelo are having lunch, when Frankie is distracted by a policewoman writing him a ticket for parking in a no parking zone, outside the restaurant. As Frankie negotiates with the police officer, Angelo is killed in a restaurant by a hit man named Bruno (Billy Gardell). Jennifer had gone to her book club, where her friends gave her some really powerful tranquilizers to help calm her down. But the drugs make Jennifer drowsy, and she cannot even see properly. At the book club, an author named Marcello introduces his new book and Jennifer is attracted to him. She returns home, and Kip is cheating on her with Jennifer's best friend, who had left the book club early that day. Jennifer is heartbroken and pulls out a gun to throw Kip and her best friend out of the house. Later that night, a wounded Frankie (who had been shot by an exiting Bruno at the restaurant) arrives at Jennifer's home. Frankie introduces himself to Jennifer, tells Jennifer who he is and what he has been doing. Jennifer helps fix Frankie by stitching his bullet wound using household supplies. A neurotic mess, Jennifer can barely handle the news that Kip is a philanderer, let alone the revelation that she is a gangster's daughter. But a DVD prepared by Angelo in the case of just such an event convinces Jennifer that it's the truth. Angelo explains that his wife died in childbirth in Sicily. Angelo brought Jennifer back to America but had many enemies here and if they ever found him, they would have killed the baby as well. So, Angelo found a childless couple and got them to adopt Jennifer. The parents were instructed never to reveal the truth to Jennifer to keep her from seeking her real family. Jennifer is shocked and goes shopping as a means of therapy for herself but is attacked by a gunman who shoots at her. Jennifer is saved by Frankie. Jennifer makes Frankie take her to her parents, who confirm Frankie's version of events. Frankie tells Jennifer that he suspects that Lucio is behind the hits on her. Frankie keeps Jennifer safe at her house and moves into her guesthouse as her full-time bodyguard. Jennifer hates the Brut cologne that Frankie wears. She learns that Frankie loves to cook. Kip comes by late at night and apologizes to Jennifer and claims that he only cheated on her once. Frankie interjects and makes Kip admit that he had been cheating on his wife for many years. Jennifer throws Kip out of the house but is also sad that now there is nobody in her life. Jennifer certainly doesn't want a full-time bodyguard, even Frankie. When she attends Angelo's funeral, people think of her as Angelo's mistress. It is also where Jennifer has a good look at Lucio. Meanwhile Frankie continues to ward off attacks on Jennifer. Frankie starts to fall in love with Jennifer by way of spending so much time with her. Slowly, Jennifer starts to appreciate what Frankie does and helps in disposing off the bodies of her attackers. It is revealed that Frankie had been looking over Jennifer since she was a kid, and even protected her from cheating boyfriends in high school. Jennifer decides that she needs to eliminate Lucio. She decides to seduce him at the bar Lucio hangs out at. Lucio has a heart attack just looking at Jennifer but wants to marry her on the way to the hospital. Lucio takes Jennifer home and wants to have sex with her. Jennifer gets naked, which gives Lucio an even bigger attack and he dies. Jennifer ditches Kip and then falls for Italian romance novelist Marcello (Raoul Bova), who lectures at her book club. Frankie has suspicions about Marcello, but his job is to stay on the sidelines. With many of Angelo's enemies, including Lucio Malatesta, terminated, Frankie allows her to visit Italy with Marcello. But it turns out that Marcello is actually Gianni Carboni, who had Angelo killed. It was not Lucio who got Angelo killed. And now Gianni plans to kill Jennifer. Frankie had figured this out reading Marcello's book in NYC and had flown to Italy. He arrives in the nick of time. Together, they kill Gianni and get married.
