Food Truck: Stolen Love... and Moo Deng
"Mamiew," a popular Thai TikToker known for his soothing ASMR live-streams, has built an online following around sound, calm, and control. His quirky charm, soft-spoken humor, and obsessive attention to detail have earned him millions of followers across Asia. To the outside world, he seems to have it all - fame, success, and a perfectly curated life. One chaotic morning, Mamiew's routine is interrupted by an unexpected FaceTime call from his two lifelong friends - Jake, a struggling food truck owner and widowed father to his baby boy Michelean, and Bobby, an art director chasing big dreams despite endless setbacks. Their reason for calling is both simple and shocking: earlier that day, they had seen a young Korean boy named Sarang - who looks exactly like Mamiew. · Even stranger, the boy's mother is Me Ree, who just happens to be Mamiew's long-lost ex-girlfriend from Korea - the one that got away. The coincidence feels too uncanny, too impossible to ignore. Jake and Bobby can't resist confronting their friend with the wild idea that this mysterious boy might actually be Mamiew's son. Mamiew, caught between disbelief and panic, denies the possibility outright. He insists that Me Ree moved on years ago, that there's no way she could have a child - his child - without ever telling him. But the situation quickly spirals out of control when the three friends realize that Sarang has secretly stowed away in the back of Jake's food truck, tucked away in a cabinet between boxes of ingredients and cooking utensils. While the friends argue over the coincidence, Sarang suddenly opens the cabinet door and takes the three friends by surprise. Meanwhile, Me Ree realizes her son has disappeared and files a missing person report with the police, and while going through CCTV footage from the day of his disappearance, Me Ree spots Sarang walking into the back of Jake's food truck. This has now become a child abduction case and a full-blown manhunt. Meanwhile, inside the food truck, they're joined by Bossa - Bobby's spirited daughter - who quickly teams up with Sarang to make sure his wishes come true. But Sarang refuses to go home until he meets "Moo Deng," a baby hippo he's fallen in love with after watching countless videos online. Known across Thailand as the "celebrity hippo," Moo Deng lives in a zoo several hours away - and Sarang pleads with Mamiew to take him there. At one point, determined to keep the promise alive, Bossa even hijacks the car while the men are asleep - making sure Mamiew has no choice but to continue the journey. · What follows is a chaotic, heartfelt, and often hilarious road trip and the trio - now accidental fugitives - must navigate language barriers, being held up at gunpoint, viral news coverage, and one very curious child who keeps asking awkward questions about Mamiew's past with his mother. Along the way, the friends rediscover their own friendship, challenge their fears, and find unexpected meaning in the journey they never planned to take. The road trip becomes a series of misadventures and as they travel, flashbacks reveal the bittersweet story of Mamiew and Me Ree's relationship - how they met years ago, how life happened and tore them apart, and how neither truly moved on. When they finally reach the zoo, Sarang's wish comes true as he finally gets to see Moo Deng, and in a twist of fate, Jake ends up accidentally abducting the baby hippo in a box. The image of a food truck barreling down a Thai highway with a small hippo in tow becomes the film's defining moment - absurd, heartwarming, and deeply symbolic of the beautiful chaos that connects people, family, and love in unexpected ways. But their joy doesn't last long. The night before reaching the city, Mamiew quietly slips away to catch a bus, leaving Jake and Bobby alone with the kids. The next morning, chaos erupts - news of a "kidnapped boy and stolen hippo" floods the internet, with Jake's face plastered everywhere as the alleged kidnapper. Unaware of the media frenzy, Jake stops at a convenience store to grab snacks for everyone. That's when it happens - police cars surround the building, sirens blaring. Both he and Bobby are arrested and taken in for questioning, yet both Sarang and Moo Deng remain on the loose and missing. While on the bus, Mamiew catches a glimpse of a news broadcast playing on another passenger's phone - Jake and Bobby's faces fill the screen, reported as having been arrested in connection with the "missing boy and stolen hippo" case. That's when he gets off the bus to help his two friends. He then runs into Me Ree outside of the station. At the police station, Jake and Bobby are pleading their innocence to the officers at the station, and Me Ree and Mamiew are trying to convince the Lieutenant in charge of the investigation to let them go as this was all just one giant misunderstanding. At the same time, Sarang and Bossa - now wandering off on their own with Moo Deng and Michelean, tucked into a shopping cart - encounter an older man who pulls over and kindly offers them a ride, claiming he'll take them back to their parents. But his intentions are far darker than they appear. The man, still grieving the loss of his own daughter, is desperately trying to fill the void she left behind. In his broken state, he takes Sarang, Bossa, and Michelean - believing he can somehow replace what he's lost. Bossa manages to escape with Michelean and Moo Deng, then finds her way back to the trio and Me Ree. She alerts them that the kidnapper still has Sarang. A frantic car chase ensues, involving the food truck, Moo Deng's zookeeper and the Police Lieutenant, who thinks he is the Brad Pitt of Thailand. Everything comes to a head at the pier, where the kidnapper is holding Sarang hostage. Mamiew and Me Ree arrive first, running to the aid of Sarang, however the kidnapper is refusing to let him go, the way he let go of his daughter he lost her to a terrible illness. The situation escalates when the kidnapper pulls out a gun...desperate to save her son, Me Ree offers to take his place and an exchange is made. Now Bobby, Jake and the police arrive at the scene and shots are fired - it looks like Jake is going to be hit, but Bobby jumps in front of him to save his friend. He is hit, but the strip club cards he was not supposed to have in his pocket save him from certain death. Behind him, the kidnapper has been hit in the chest and stumbles backwards, pulling Me Ree with him as he falls into the ocean below. Mamiew pulls her out of the ocean and all hope seems lost as she lays unconscious on the beach while Mamiew performs CPR on her. Sarang is pleading with his mom to come back to life: "Mom. Mom. Look, I've seen Moo Deng!". Crying, Mamiew makes one final plea to her to bring her back to life: "Me Ree, please wake up, so the three of us can finally be a family." Finally, Me Ree wakes up and the new family of three hug each other tightly. The final act of the film takes place in the hospital where Me Ree is recovering from her drowning incident. In an emotional ending, Me Ree reveals she is moving to Thailand with Sarang, but will return after her job is complete to be a family with Mamiew and Sarang. Mamiew finally tells Sarang "I'm your dad, Sarang...let me be the one to see your smile and comfort you when you cry..I'll be with you as long as you want me, ok?" Sarang responds: "Dad." "Food Truck: Stolen Love...and Moo Deng" is a heartfelt romantic comedy about friendship, family, and finding love in the most unexpected places. It's a cross-cultural journey that blends Thai humor, Korean heart, and universal emotion. Packed with stunning visuals, lovable characters, and moments that balance laughter with tears, the film reminds audiences that sometimes the road to self-discovery begins with a runaway child, a borrowed hippo, and the courage to face the past with an open heart.
