"Cate Bros: Arkansas Legends of Rock & Soul" is a documentary biopic in it's truest sense as you experience Earl and Ernie Cate and their band create music that defines the sound of Northwest Arkansas. This is accomplished through a more than 50 year extraordinary collaborative process that still continues to unfold as these artists work together professionally and personally. Originally known as The Cates Twins then The Del Rays, they also played with the legendary Ronnie Hawks in the 1960s. Their original drummer was Levon Helm who left and joined The Band at Woodstock being replaced by his nephew Terry Cagle on drums. The band changed their name to The Cates Gang releasing two (2) albums; Wanted and Come by Home which have since been re-release on the Cosmic Cowboy Records label in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Signing with a major label in the mid 1970s, they changed their name to The Cate Brothers and had a top hit single "Union Man" which landed them performances on Dick Clark's American Bandstand, Midnight Special, and Don Kirschir's Rock Concert followed by a schedule of rigorous touring for several years and several more years. However they always returned home to Fayetteville, Arkansas, their hometown rather seek the national stardom so many would have. Their humility comes out in their music. The Cate brothers also played Top of the Pops and recorded many acclaimed music videos in the 197os and 80s and well as reunited with Helm and other members of The Band occasionally in Fayetteville for gigs. At age 78, they still remain active on a regional level and continue to record. Experience the candid moments, original performances, frustrations, joy, reflections and friendships they happened.
