Quinn (Brandon Baker) is a substitute teacher at North Central Junior High and engineering graduate student who is a romantic at heart. His best friend is Graham (Mike Schminke) a fellow graduate student and chauvinist who when it comes to women believes in the axiom of quantity over quality. He believes in having sex with girls till he finds the right one. Graham does wedding and engagement photographs on the side. Graham & Quinn are typical nerd losers, who keep striking out with women or are taken advantage of. Quinn has a crush on a cute girl TJ (Katie Goebel). TJ just started teaching Social Studies to the Night grade class in the same school. Meanwhile Amy (Sasha Jackson) is taking advantage of Graham but getting him to do odd jobs. Amy has Graham on the hook and gets him to bring her lunch at work. It is clear that Amy is seeing other guys but claims to Graham that they are just friends. Amy doesn't have sex with Graham and says that their friendship means a lot to her. Quinn has met TJ a few times and they have a lot in common, but Quinn lacks the courage to take it forward to the next level. TJ and Quinn both carry their bucket lists around with them. TJ wants to be an extra in a disaster movie. Quinn gets TJ to teach him how to play golf. Professor Millan (Reginald VelJohnson) is their thesis instructor. Quinn and Graham are convinced that they have a set of working formulas that can predict and eventually control all human actions. The guys want a recommendation from Millan to get funding of $10,000 to buy more equipment to research their subjects. But Millan throws them out and asks them to pick a more realistic project for their doctoral thesis. Lee (Tyler Thirnbeck) is another loser who shares a room with Quinn & Graham. Lee has a 4-foot African Saltwater snake called Sam. Sam was left behind by Lee's ex-girlfriend Rachel. Sam is missing in the house and the guys are terrified of being eaten by it at night when they are asleep. After TJ leading Quinn on (by going together for movies and antiquing), he finally gathers the courage to ask TJ to be his girlfriend, but she refuses. TJ says that she is not looking for anything serious at that point in time. Quinn and Graham test their formula on Lee to get him to give them $1000. Lee does not give them $1000 but tells Quinn that he was completely ready to make out with him. Lee gives them the idea to try the same on a girl. Quinn and Graham are still striking out with women at bars. Lee starts a new business of finding celebrity faces in food items (like chips, toast and vegetables) at home and selling them on EBay. Quinn and Graham are eventually angry to the extent of tweaking their formula to start picking up women. They tweak their mathematical formula designed to control all human action and in way that when applied, it will attract women to them. They start their research to predicting outcomes on soap operas and reality shows involving women. They figure out that the perfect formula involves them separating themselves from the rest of the guys in the room. To be aloof, mysterious and desirable. The first time Quinn tries his new formula in a bar, he attracts a hot girl and ends up kissing her. Quinn wants to try it on TJ, but Graham wants to test the formula more, and perfect it. Their discovery eventually corrupts them transforming them into a pair of arrogant and selfish womanizers. Amy gets jealous of seeing Graham's pictures on his Facebook page with so many different women. TJ can also see Quinn making out with women/fellow teachers in school. Soon, the duo are the life of every party and leave with beautiful women every time after barely spending a few minutes at the party. Graham recovers in time to remember that he did all this to woo Amy and goes out on a date with her. But Quinn is too far gone to remember TJ. Quinn starts striking out with TJ, with none of his usual tricks working. The same goes for Graham with Amy. Graham & Quinn again take their formula to Millan, and he again kicks them out. Millan calls them irresponsible and chauvinistic. In desperation to prove their point, they try and seduce Millan's wife (right there in his office when she comes to visit him), which gets them expelled from their program. They have an opportunity to appeal the decision in 2 weeks, else the expulsion will be permanent. Lee finally finds the snake in the living room, crawling under a couch, and tries to shoot it with an arrow. But he ends up hitting Quinn on his foot and the snake moves under a heater. In a rare moment of vulnerability, Quinn shares his true feelings with TJ, only for her to say that she has a boyfriend. In frustration, Quinn sleeps with Amy and that drives Quinn and Graham apart. Graham was already falling apart as he loses all faith in love and starts mistreating his clients who come to him for the engagement pictures. Quinn tells his friends that they are pathetic to think that they are single by choice, as everyone knows that no sane woman would allow those losers to come near them. It is Lee who snaps Quinn out of his negativity and tells him that TJ rejecting him is not the end of the world. Finally, Quinn apologizes to Graham & says that Amy is not good for her. Graham finally gets over his obsession with Amy. Professor Millan shares his own story with the boys and says that he was dumped at 21, by a girl whom he thought was the one. And yet, then he met his future wife. Millan says that men will never be able to figure women out completely and that is how it is meant to be. Quinn tells TJ that he is OK being just friends with her. They both realize that love is much more than just a formula.
