A man in a hood murders a young woman, Aisha Verma (Shraddha Kapoor) with a screwdriver and throws her out the window, after breaking into her house. At her funeral, a CBI officer, Aditya Rathore (Shaad Randhawa), points out to the police, that it is vital to track down the murderer or else Guru (Sidharth Malhotra), Aisha's husband, would go on a killing spree. He misguides Guru by blaming Guru's former boss, a gangster Caesar (Remo Fernandes), for killing Aisha. In a flashback, he reveals that Guru used to work as a hit-man for Caesar. Caesar raised and trained Guru to murder the goons who killed his parents. Guru's father was addicted to gambling and was shot dead in front of Guru when he failed to repay his debts. Caesar helped him kill the goons who killed his parents, but that did not give Guru any peace in life. Guru has a death wish, while Caesar tells him to find a reason to live. Two years back, Guru had mercilessly killed a young man named Deepu in a fit of anger, in front of his mother and younger brother. Deepu had betrayed Caesar and ratted to the police. When Guru is arrested for killing Deepu, Deepu's mother refuses to testify against him and warns him that one day God will make him pay for his crimes by making him lose his loved one. Guru first saw Aisha when she visited the police station while he was in lock-up. She sees Guru being tortured in custody by Rathore. Rathore tells Guru that Caesar is responsible for the death of his 3 officers. Due to lack of any evidence, Guru is released from custody. Guru meets Aisha, a free-spirited girl in love with life, who hires Guru, as a goon, to help her kidnap an old man from a mental asylum. Aisha is not afraid of Guru. It is later revealed that the old man's family had abandoned him in the mental asylum & settled overseas. Aishi helps rescue him & reunites him with his aged lover. Guru & Aisha soon become friends, and Aisha reveals to him that she is suffering from a terminal illness and tells him about her bucket list. It has stuff like "reuniting 2 lovers", "watching a peacock dance in the first rain", "to fly like the wind", "to catch a butterfly and to play with it", "to touch snow", "to be famous for a day", "to see the world underwater", "to save someone's life" and so on. Guru is astounded that Aisha is not terrified by the thought of impending death and is yet busy living her life to the fullest. Guru helps her fulfill most of those wishes but her health deteriorates. Falling in love with her, Guru marries Aisha. He tries every means to save her, she receives treatment in Mumbai and miraculously recovers. Guru gives up his old life and gets a job. Few days later she discovers she is pregnant but conceals the fact from Guru. She decides to tell Guru in person when he returns from his interview but is murdered before she can. Guru was calling Aisha to tell her that he got the job, when Aisha was attacked brutally and killed, while Guru was on the phone. The attacked takes away Aisha's locket. In a parallel story, Rakesh Mahadkar (Riteish Deshmukh) is an unsuccessful and henpecked man who is constantly nagged and ridiculed by his wife Sulochana (Aamna Sharif) for being useless and poor. While he dearly loves his wife, he vents his frustration by murdering other women who speak rudely to him, and Aisha turns out to be one of them. Aisha was bringing Ganpati home for rituals. Near her house, the road was riddled with potholes and she barely avoided running into kids playing on the street, with her car. She finds Rakesh, a government employee working on a telephone junction box, and tells him off for the poor state of roads in the city. Rakesh gives the locket he took from Aisha to Sulochana, but she does not appreciate anything that he does. Sulochana throws Rakesh out of the house. Rakesh is a telephone maintenance engineer and uses this guise to enter the houses of women who have wronged him and he wants to kill. In present day, Guru aims to track down Aisha's killer. Rathore tells Guru that it was Caesar who killed Aisha as Caesar wanted Guru to become a hit-man again. Guru tracks down Caesar in Goa, but Caesar insists that he did not touch Aisha. After finding out that it was not Caesar behind the murder, he finally tracks down Rakesh (by looking for items that were stolen from the house by Rakesh after he killed Aisha), while he is assaulting another victim. Guru beats him brutally but later admits him to a hospital and pays for the expenses, intending to punish him by repeatedly bringing him to the brink of death, saving him, and doing it all over again. While at the hospital, Guru finds out that Aisha was pregnant which makes him even more angry. While assaulting a nurse who had earlier spoken rudely to him, Rakesh is again intercepted by Guru who almost kills him but revives him again after delivering an adrenaline shot and sets him free. Meanwhile, the police find the truth about Rakesh and take his wife for questioning. Rakesh goes to his friend Brijesh Yadav (Kamaal R Khan), who suggests that Guru must be the husband of one of his victims and is thus taking revenge. He realizes that Guru is Aisha's husband as Aisha had begged him not to kill her by saying that she is pregnant. Rakesh, who now knows Guru's identity taunts him over the phone, before killing Aisha's father and then surrenders himself to Guru. Rakesh expected Guru to kill him so that he would become a "hero" in the eyes of his wife and everyone else, while Guru would become a "villain". However, Caesar calls Guru at that moment and says that he has killed Rakesh's wife and asks Guru to finish off his son Manish. Enraged, Rakesh injures Guru and is about to kill him when he is run over by a car and dies on the spot. Guru later adopts Rakesh's son instead of killing him and completes the remaining wishes on Aisha's bucket list.
