Oh, Johnny, How You Can Love!
The life of Johnny Sandham, the traveling salesman nephew of a mail order magnate, takes a wrong turn when his truck collides with the car of Kelly Archer, a runaway heiress. Kelly, who was running away to New York to elope with archaeologist Gilbert Mallow, abandons her damaged car and hitches a ride with Johnny. Their trip is interrupted when the Weasel, a bank robber, commandeers Johnny's truck and orders him to drive to Canada. While eating breakfast at a truck stop, Johnny passes a plea for help hidden in a box of candy to the waitress, Gertie. That night, Johnny is stopped by the police for his faulty brakes and ordered to have them repaired at the Thistlebottom garage and motor inn. Albert Thistlebottom, an eccentric inventor, proudly shows them the disappearing beds and sliding towel racks that he has installed at the inn. Johnny, who has fallen in love with Kelly, enlists the Weasel in a scheme to prevent her from eloping with Gilbert. Telling Weasel that he is really gangster Jersey Joe, Johnny proposes that they kidnap Kelly and demand a large ransom from her father. Johnny's scheme works until the Weasel's accomplices arrive and decide to cut themselves in on the ransom. Overhearing their plans, Kelly becomes enraged at Johnny and tells Thistlebottom to alert the police. This leads to a skirmish at the inn in which Thistlebottom's gadgets subdue the crooks. Kelly and Johnny are in the midst of an argument when Kelly's father and the police arrive, summoned by the note that Gertie found in the box of candy. As Johnny is about to drive off, Kelly realizes that she loves him and hops into his truck.
