Once Upon a Honeymoon
Katherine Butt-Smith, a Brooklyn-born gold digger, finally gets a catch and is about to marry a baron. The only trouble is, her baron is working for Hitler, helping to infiltrate European countries through "goodwill" tours. Reporter Patrick O'Toole has been trying to gather information for a story on the baron. Meeting Kathie, disguised as a dressmaker, Patrick is intrigued by Kathie's beauty and her complete ignorance and disregard for politics. The baron and baroness go on their honeymoon, and Patrick follows their trail - as every country the baron's goes to seems to fall to the Germans. In Warsaw, Kathie has a rude awakening: her husband is arrested. Patrick tells her about the dark side of the baron, and her Jewish maid Anna had her children hiding in her hotel room, fearing that they will be arrested and sent to concentration camps. Kathie gives her passport to Anna to help them escape, and Patrick loses his passport in a fire. The two are about to head for the American embassy when they are arrested by the Gestapo - Kathie is carrying Anna's passport. The mix-up is sorted out by the American embassy just in time, and Patrick and Kathie are on their way back to the States. When they are in Paris waiting for the next ship, Kathie meets Gaston Le Blanc, a double agent posing as a photographer specializing in passport photos. Gaston manages to appeal to Kathie's patriotism and she agrees to sacrifice her love for Patrick and return to the baron. As Patrick sits in a café, drinking away the misery of the mysterious disappearance of Kathie, he meets the baron and is offered the job of announcer for Hitler's propaganda broadcast to the US. Patrick decides to play the typical money-hungry American and take the job after he realizes that Kathie's gone back to the baron. Le Blanc happens to be tailing the baron at the time and tells Patrick about Kathie becoming a spy. Kathie is not good at espionage and is being watched. After her secret rendezvous with Le Blanc, he is killed and she is arrested. As a courtesy to the baron, Kathie is brought back to the hotel to change before questioning. Anna, now working at the same hotel, comes to Kathie's rescue. She switches clothes with Anna and goes to find Patrick as Le Blanc instructed, who is preparing to start the live broadcast. Using innuendos and casually misplaced words, Patrick manages to have the baron arrested for treason. He and Kathie promptly quit the spy business and head for home. On board the ship, Patrick is shocked when a trembling Kathie tells him that the baron was on board as well, and that she's just pushed him overboard. Having confirmed that Kathie got her divorce and the baron couldn't swim, the captain brings the ship about and halts the rescue attempt.
