One Way Wahine
While sunbathing on the beach in O'ahu, a young woman named Kit (Joy Harmon) meets an old beachcomber named Sweeney (Andrew Burgen). During their conversation, Kit clues the old man in about her being a "one way wahine," having used the last of her money to come to Hawaii, but not having enough to return to the mainland. Sweeney promises not to tell, and after he leaves, a local surfer named Paulo (Ralph Nanalei) whom Kit knows tries to strike up a conversation. Kit seems to be upset that he mooches off her meager funds and doesn't spend much time with her, and Paulo recommends they go to a nearby bar named Bart's, promising to treat her to a beer. Kit goes back to her place to freshen up, only to encounter her leering landlord, Mr Maxwell (Alvy Moore). He tells her of a possible job opportunity, but it's not immediate, and she fears she may run out of money before then. Maxwell tells Kit he may be able to help her out in the meantime, but she threatens to tell his wife what he is doing and sends him rushing off. Later at Bart's, a local delivery boy named Lou (David Whorf) pops in to check on his roommate Chick (Anthony Eisley), and a serving girl named Brandy (Adele Claire). Lou tells them he is planning to hold a party at his and Chick's place that evening, and wants them both to be there. Lou also sees Paulo and Kit at a nearby table. Knowing Paulo and being a little intrigued by Kit, he invites them to come too. At the party, Paulo's interest is drawn to a local Hawaiian girl, and Kit soon gives in to Lou's request for a dance, and a quick tour of the apartment. She also meets Brandy, and the older woman takes a shine to her. Lou also managed to get some locals who play expensive floor shows for the local hotels to provide entertainment. Kit dances to some of their music, but the girl who has been cuddling with Paulo convinces them to play something "more traditional," and Kit is shoved aside. She then takes the opportunity to cuddle with Lou, and the two share a kiss. The next day during his delivery job, Lou picks up some Chicago newspapers as part of a grocery delivery to two men named Hugo (Ken Mayer) and Charley (Lee Krieger). The men are quite jovial with Lou, and ask if he can find them some girls to party with. Lou claims he'll look around, with the two men promising good money if he comes through for them. After the delivery, Lou goes back to the store and peruses through some of the same Chicago newspapers, and comes across an article telling of two bank clerks who robbed the Chicago bank they worked at, and then disappeared. Lou quickly tells Chick about his hunch that the two men he delivered to must be the robbers. Based on their request for only the latest Chicago newspapers, and they don't seem to have hit the beaches like most tourists. Plus, they pay in cash with some extra-large tips. Lou figures the $100,000 from the heist must be stashed in their apartment, and has a plan to get it. Knowing Hugo and Charley's request for girls, he tries to get Kit and Brandy in on the scheme as well. Lou's plan calls for the girls to entertain Hugo and Charley, and then slip some sleeping pills into their drinks to knock them out. Once the two men are asleep, the girls will steal the $100,000 from the men's bedroom. They will then bag the money and signal Chick, who will swim up to the house, take the money, and swim off back to Lou's place. The girls will then be picked up by Lou, and they'll equally split the money once it's over. Naturally, despite her being in danger of eviction and needing the money, Brandy is concerned for her well-being, as well as Kit's. To alleviate their fears, Lou invites Sweeney over for a drink, putting one of the sleeping pills in it. Upon seeing it knock the old beachcomber out quickly, the two girls decide to go through with the plan. Lou quickly rushes over to tell Hugo and Charley that he'll drop the two girls off that evening. Once Kit and Brandy have been delivered, he makes sure Chick is where he needs to be to see Kit's signal. Kit and Brandy entertain the two men, before Brandy fixes some drinks for everyone, placing the pills in the guys' drinks as Kit distracts them with a dance. Brandy leads Hugo into the bedroom, and after he drinks from his glass, the sleeping pill does it's work. Brandy then checks the room for the stolen bank money. However, things begin to go awry when Charley spills his drink, leaving Kit unsure what to do. Charley makes another drink, and then drunkenly tries to take advantage of Kit, who fends off his advances. During the scuffle, Charley flickers the lights, leading Chick to think Kit is signaling him to come pick up the money. Kit's cries finally reach Brandy's ears, and she attempts to stop Hugo, but the crook ends up knocking both girls out. Kit comes to, only to have Charley attempt to assault her again, before she breaks a bottle over his head, knocking him out. She manages to wake Brandy up, and they find Chick waiting for the money outside. However, Brandy failed to seal the bag, which gets caught on some wood, spilling the money all around Chick! He grabs up what he can, but fearful of getting the money wet, stows most of it in a garbage can on the beach nearby. It is then that Charley comes to and attempts to grab the girls, before they manage to run out of the apartment! He then grabs a Tommy Gun from a cabinet, and seeing Chick on the beach, attempts to kill him before the frightened young man rushes into the ocean and swims off. Due to a flat tire, Lou is late rendezvousing with the girls, and at the sound of the gunfire, the two fear for their lives and rush off into the night. Eventually, the four return to Lou and Chick's place to recover from the ordeal. Chick did manage to carry along $23 from the heist in his swim trunks, which is currently drying on a nearby table. As Lou checks the morning newspaper, he is surprised to see Hugo and Charley made the front page. Charley's gun-toting actions eventually led to a standoff which killed him. Hugo was found unconscious and later arrested. The four then head back to the beach to recover the rest of the money Chick hid in the trashcan (with plans to turn it into the Police), only to find Sweeney and a Policeman standing over the can. The old beachcomber is eager to tell what he found, but the four just keep on walking down the beach, their plans for easy money having slipped through their fingers.
