Can dance heal the soul? Renowned Russian psychologist Alexander Girshon discusses his method of working with dance and movement, sharing life wisdom and his poetry. He dances on the turbulent Atlantic Ocean shore and conducts intimate psychological sessions for clients. MAMAKI FILM is a group of Russian filmmakers who have been residing in various European countries since February 2022. In 2023, our goal was to create a project showcasing a Russian individual who, with dignity, navigates through morally challenging times and lights the way for those around. The film is about the work of the most famous Russian dance therapist, Alexander Girshon, who, after moving to Portugal, continued to support his clients and students from Ukraine, Russia, Europe, and Israel. It is a portrait of the master, his philosophy, his method, and the Inexpressible that cannot be conveyed in words. During filming, we realized and felt how a universal language - The Dance- allows people to understand each other regardless of cultural differences and political conflicts. We, the filming team, decided to become this film's protagonists and experience how movement helps to know and understand oneself. This film is not just a story about the Master, his philosophy, and his method but also about how, by working on ourselves, we achieve greater integrity and humanity. We didn't want lofty morality or drama; we wanted to "embrace" the audience with a healing experience. We believe that any social activity in the modern world should go hand in hand with inner work. If you want to change the world around you, start with yourself! Otherwise, you will only reproduce old patterns, pretending to be active. Resolving personal internal conflicts and developing emotional intelligence can enhance a person's ability to contribute to society. Personal self-awareness and addressing prejudices create a more tolerant and inclusive society. Inner work practices need to be integrated into daily routines to support a balance between social activity and personal development. Taking care of the inner world, its health, working on inner conflicts, and prosperity is not selfishness, as commonly believed, but an individual's direct and primary responsibility.
