Princess Cut 2
Faced with the widening gap between citizens and power, and after an economic crisis that has seriously affected social cohesion, this film gives us an unprecedented glimpse of how citizens build a society from inside a parliament, a Citizens' Palace, providing a pertinent reflection, often contradictory and complex, on the essence of democracy. —Monomito Argumentistas Back in 2015, when I started researching for this film, I was told inside the Parliament that it does not always offer good solutions in due time, and that many demands are made upon citizens. Do we know how Democracy works? I decided to portrait this palace inhabited by those who have the power to decide, to observe the rituals of this institution, the daily life of individual confrontations, where the collective destiny of a society and the real expectations of citizens are played out. Through the eyes of our representatives I want to show the space where the human decisions that affect society take place. More than offer answers, I decided to create a film that raises curiosity and questioning. I want to question the way our society is organized. What is the use of this institution, established as the House of Democracy and which governs our experience in society? Finding this vital current hidden inside these characters is the challenge that motivated me to make this film. —Rui Pires
