The main deities are Lord Vishnu and the fierce Sudarshanamurthy, meaning the giver of good sight. Lord Vishnu is known here as "Shrivallabhan". The name 'Thiruvalla' is said to be derived from this name. The Thiruvalla Sri Vallabhamaha Temple is one of the 108 Vaishnava shrines sung by the devoted poets of the Azhwars.
