Sisters in Arms
ZARA is a young Yazidi, wise, artist, dreaming of traveling. Her life changes when jihadists attack her village of Sinjar. They kill her father and deport her, to sell her as a sex slave. She is bought by a British convert. During her captivity, attacks strike and the world becomes aware of the horror. Kenza, a young French-Algerian who has already lost a sister because of Islamists, decides to join the resistance. She meets YAEL (a young Israeli), MOTHER SUN (an Italian leftist who has suffered a rape in her youth), AMERICAN SNIPER (a female soldier who fought in Iraq) and LADY KURDA (a Kurd of the diaspora who takes selfies all the time). The romanticism of the world of peace joins the reality of the world of war. ZARA, who escaped her executioner, refuses to remain a victim and decides to replace her brother in joining the Kurdish resistance. Along with her sisters, she discovers the sweetness of others' lives, the strength of sisterhood, and the fear that these warriors inspire to jihadists, terrorized of being killed by a woman. Based on true stories Zara's abduction mixes several testimonies of Yazidi women, first deported in august 2014 in Sinjar, and who became fighters. On the war front, there really are women fighters terrorizing men from Isis who are convinced that being killed by women will deprive them from paradise. The Snake Brigade could exist. Kurdish units really welcome foreign volunteers coming from all over the world, willing to fight with the resistance side by side with Peshmergas or YPJ. Exactly like this 40 year-old Canadian woman, a former model, nicknamed "Tiger Sun" who inspired the character of "Mother Sun" in my scenario. But we chose to create an original story to value a metaphorical epic, universal and timeless: the allegorical confrontation between the Army of the Califate and the Party of the Sun.
