Each segment from a story from the collection "Sleepless Nights" by Ali Douagi, which take place in 1930s Tunisia. In "The Lamppost" segment (directed by Hamouda Ben Halima) a hairdresser meets a mysterious veiled stranger alone under a street lamp, in "The Visit" (directed by Hedi Ben Khalifa) an unhappy wife complains to her mother about mistreatment by her habitually drunk husband, and in "Picnic" (directed by Ferid Boughedir) Abdelhamid is invited to lunch by his friend Abdallah. —Samb Hicks
