The Entitled
An overview of cultural history surrounding the efforts to legalize hemp in America, 'Hemp Disconnected' juxtaposes cannabis prohibition propaganda to a post-pandemic Humboldt County which was caught in the shadow of a fractured economy. The Hemp Connection was the first Hemp store to open in America in the age of cannabis prohibition which began in 1937 with the Marihuana Tax Act. After 31 years in business, the Hemp Connection closed its doors in 2022 and local southern Humboldt blogger and journalist John Hardin interviewed the store's proprietor, Marie Mills during their final close out sale. In order to highlight the significance of the business closing, and the impact it has had on southern Humboldt and America, Hardin delves into the history of cannabis and hemp prohibition and the policies, political narratives and actions taken by the United States government to squelch the underlying revolution which began in the 1960's. Featuring interviews with prominent High Times co-founder Ed Rosenthal, renowned cannabis physician Dr. William Courtney, and famous cannabis activist Debby Goldsberry, Hardin brings viewers on a historical tour of the War on Drugs and the effect that it has had on America's relationship with the cannabis plant. Featuring archive footage with David Letterman, Jack Herer, Sonny Bono and Jay Leno, 'Hemp Disconnected' directs a lens at one of the most significant grassroots political movements in American history.
