Based on a Mongolian folktale, this film features the colorful traditions and magical landscape of that part of the world. The wise Arat rides into the fertile valley of red flowers disguised as the wolf hunter Arrasch. He once entrusted the shepherd Pagwa with the key to the water's riches. Now Arat wants to test his protegee. Arat is dismayed to discover that Pagwa has invented a dangerous story about his secret for his three sons. The greed and envy of the eldest shepherd sons will soon bring misfortune to the valley. Only the youngest son, Dawadorshi, who is scolded as a fool, proves on a long journey that he has the gift to accomplish what his father has not yet succeeded in doing. —ARD
