The Hairdresser
Dr. Baldev Chaddha (Annu Kapoor), a fertility expert, runs a fertility clinic and a sperm bank in Daryaganj, Delhi, that guarantees high quality and specialized sperm for couples without issue. Unfortunately, he has more failed cases to his credit than successes. Couples are willing to spend big amounts of money with Chaddha, but some have not had success for more than 2 years. Chaman (Bupesh Pandya) is Dr Chaddha's assistant. A healthy and high-performing donor is therefore need of the hour. Men do not want to be sperm donors due to the lack of understanding and social stigma attached to the activity of masturbation. Most of the people who respond to Chaddha's ad are either very old, or gay or are weird in unimaginable ways. While searching for his 'Indian Alexander', Chaddha bumps into Vicky Arora (Ayushmann Khurrana). Vicky is the only son of his widowed mother Dolly (Dolly Ahluwalia), who runs a small parlor from their home in Lajpat Nagar. He provides no financial support to her. Dolly wants Vicky to take some responsibility in life as she is tired of supporting his pub visits, expenses with his friends and his expensive fashion tastes. Shweta (Puja Gupta) lives in the neighborhood and has a crush on Vicky. A small brawl in the colony brings Chaddha and Vicky face to face, where Chaddha concludes that Vicky could be the donor he has been looking for. But Vicky has dreams to do a proper white-collar job, a dream that his hard-working mother does not support, as she sees no skills in Vicky that can help him get a job. Chaddha finds that Vicky's great grandfather had 19 kids, including 4 pairs of twins. His last child was born at the age of 78. From here on, Chaddha's days and nights are spent convincing Vicky to become a donor until he finally gives in. Chaddha tells Vicky that his patients have a lot of respect for his work, and they give numerous blessings if they are successful in having a child. Chaddha says that Vicky only has to donate the sperm. Any kids born as a result of that are not going to be Vicky's responsibility. Vicky is very skeptical of Baldev's plans to help childless couples to conceive using his sperm. Vicky refuses Chaddha to be his sperm donor, but Chaddha pleads that his clinic is on the verge of shutting down and only Vicky can save it. Chaddha then meets Dolly and says that he and Vicky are starting a business together. Chaddha again argues that in ancient times this service was provided by Sadhus and other men who had renounced the world.
