A space shuttle crashes in Washington DC and there is something alien in the wreckage. Soon, the city is being swept by a strange epidemic. People are slowly becoming totally unfeeling and inhuman. Psychiatrist Carol Bennel and her friend, Dr Ben Driscoll, find out that people are infected when they are asleep only. Carol does her best to stay awake long enough to find her young son, who probably holds the answer to the whole mess.
