He came from nowhere, forever changed a country with his music, then disappeared. A tragic portrait of one of the most consequential and forgotten artists in contemporary Cuba. A film about youth, dance and rebellion. In the mid 1990s Cuba was seemingly frozen in time but, in fact, it was going through profound changes. Young people were eagerly searching for something else and embraced a new musical movement that was spreading across the island. Its leader was Kandyman and the music, reggaeton. Over the course of just a few months at the start of the of the 21st century, the musician Kandyman's disruptive sound took Cuba by assault. He then suddenly disappeared, not without first having altered the cultural landscape of one of the music epicenters of the world. In the midst of a unique sociopolitical situation during a key moment in Cuban history, EN LA CALIENTE tells the story of Cuban reggaeton's origins, hand in hand with an irreverent youth living its own revolution.
