Who Killed Teddy Bear
In New York, a disco hostess is stalked by a sexual predator, and she requests help from a vice squad detective who takes a personal interest in the case. SPOILER: A busboy at a disco has sexual problems related to events in his childhood. He becomes obsessed with a disc jockey at the club, leading to obscene phone calls, voyeurism, trips to the porn shop and adult movie palace, and more. A police detective is similarly obsessed with sexual materials, leading him to become personally involved in the case. —Steven Rubio <srubio@garnet.berkeley.edu> Living in a short-term apartment sublet of a friend of a friend, Norah Dain, an aspiring actress, has recently arrived in New York City and is working as a record spinner/hostess at a discotheque. Her coworkers seem friendly enough to her; they include owner/manager Marian Freeman, the "mock" French maître d' Michel, the deaf bouncer Carlo, and the young waiter Larry Sherman. Marian is New York-streetwise and looks out for Norah, who has just started receiving obscene telephone calls. She tries not to let them bother her, but it may be difficult due to her sexual inexperience. But as Norah is at the police station on another matter associated with the discotheque, widowed Lt. Dave Madden, father to ten-year-old Pam Madden, takes it upon himself to investigate. Concurrently with Madden's interest in the matter of the calls and seemingly with Norah herself, the nature of the calls becomes more and more intrusive in Norah's life with the caller making it clear that he knows all about her and, seemingly, her every move. This situation prompts questions in Norah's mind: is Madden himself her obscene caller, and does he, or whoever the caller is, have a more sexually violent intent than just the calls as Madden himself has stated is the probability? —Huggo
