A story about how synthetic humans can feel and even love and how the people they are involved with react to this concept. The fastest growing startup in the human relationship market has 3 divisions: The Machine/computer programs, pharmaceuticals (fall in love drug's a best seller) and synthetic companions. Zoe/Léa Seydoux works there and decides to have The Machine evaluate her. In secrecy, she compares herself with colleague Cole/Ewan McGregor on the computer and gets a 0% compatibility rate. A new, handsome, synthetic man being taught and tested hits on her but she's not interested in a bunch of zeros and ones. Zoe mentions the 0% to Cole and he finally tells her. She's synthetic, less than a year old with AI, artificial memories and feelings. After long talks they start dating. —Scott Filtenborg Cole (Ewan McGregor) and Zoe (Léa Seydoux) are coworkers. While Cole designs so-called "synthetics," robots that appear so lifelike that they are indistinguishable from humans, Zoe uses algorithms to find the perfect partner for her clients for a lifelong relationship. Gradually, she develops feelings for Cole herself. Ash, one of the androids they created, becomes jealous of the affair between Zoe and Cole and reveals to them that Zoe is a robot. Torn between their feelings for each other and the stigma attached to a relationship between a human and a machine, all three are caught in a spiral of confusion and deception, permeated by the strongest human emotion: love. —ARD
